WE HAPPY FEW | Opens Oct 29 | 4 nights only!

Last year, The Alexandra Players were selected (along with 19 other groups from the South East of England) to participate in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Open Stages event for 2013-2016. Wishing also to perform something that would commemorate the centenary of the First World War in 2014, the group chose to perform WE HAPPY FEW – a comedy, written by English Actress and Playwright, Imogen Stubbs.

The play tells the tale of The Osiris Players – a true story that follows the adventures of several women who came together to form a ‘girls only’ theatre company. Whilst the men were away fighting Hitler and the bombs were blitzing London, this gallant group of hopelessly mismatched individuals embarked on a crazy adventure to deliver the plays of Shakespeare around culture-starved Britain.

We were very lucky in that James Farrell (mentor for the RSC, currently acting as Associate Director for Neville’s Island opening soon at The Duke of York’s Theatre, London) recently came to observe a rehearsal with The Players for WE HAPPY FEW. It was an absolute pleasure to meet him and the whole cast and crew found the evening to be most rewarding and enlightening.

The box office for WE HAPPY FEW opened this week and if recent productions by The Alexandra Players are anything to go by, we expect tickets to sell out fast. Interest has been high and so we collectively decided to add an extra date to the running of this play.

The production will now run for 4 nights at the end of October.

For anyone that might be interested, I have been cast as Miss Charlotte (Charlie) Peters, a role first performed by Patsy Palmer when it opened in the West End back in 2004 at The Gielgud Theatre.

Should you wish to come along and see us perform this warm and nostalgic wartime production, please see all the details below (or visit our website  www.alexandraplayers.org.uk for more information).
